Valentine Poem by James Walter Orr

Valentine

Someone wrote me a note,
Someone sent me a line,
And she asked me if I'd
Be her own valentine.

Now you know I'm not rude,
(I've a curious bent,)
So I answered her 'sure, '
In the message I sent.

Then her answer came back,
Just as prompt as you please,
And said, 'Now we're sweethearts, '
And she started to tease.

She kidded and flirted:
Such cute things she would say!
In day-dreams I would see
Her throughout the long day.

Some very strange thoughts then
Would lay siege to my mind,
And began to intrude
On the school's daily grind.

I'll keep it a secret,
The ending of this tale,
But I will let you know
That I'm glad I'm a male.
