Venus Hesitates Poem by James Walter Orr

Venus Hesitates

There’s a strange mooded world
That’s tormented and tossed
Where tranquility flirts with disaster.
There’s a violence unfurled,
And a line has been crossed
As two states debate which is the master.
These two states can’t exist
At the very same time,
And we must follow that path we shall choose.
Our powers we enlist,
Though we think it’s a crime
To follow creeds that are hard to excuse.

Venus lies on the beach,
Spiraled sea shells amongst,
With the most perfect tan: alabaster.
My grasp exceeds my reach,
With desires so far-flung,
With my pulse, as my thoughts, racing faster.
The fuse has been lighted,
and it leads to the clouds,
Where her thoughts dwell, and in her soul it seems,
With kindred hearts sighted,
Peripherally sensed,
Where the thoughts of the Poets make daydreams.

So enamored, this star,
As the heavens make woo,
And the sun now falls full on my winter.
Oh, don’t stand so afar,
Nearly lost in the blue,
From this land, I’ve re-found, in the hinter.
Oh Venus! Don’t linger!
Come lay yourself near me,
No hesitation! Play temptress with fate!
Become my sweet singer!
Come listen and hear me!
Heaven’s the trap. Let’s use love for the bait.

We must fully resolve
this boundless emotion,
and follow now sweet tranquilities trail.
This problem we can solve:
Put love into motion
To defeat disaster and make torment fail.
Allow the explosion,
But temper the measure:
Lower but longer, tranquilities deed.
We have no erosion,
Save bowing to pleasure.
Seal the bond stronger, still building on need.
