Valentines, Pay! Poem by Etienne Charilaou

Valentines, Pay!

There are some who hate Valentine's Day.
I am not in their number.
Like Christmas it's over-commercialised;
but that's to be expected.

I pity the fools who think
the over-sized Teddy or cushion heart
bespeaks their love so great!
It can only mean the opposite is true,
and that they don't have a clue
what love really is.

Give not tokens!
Give not flowers!
Test your lover's love, and powers
of kindness.

If she's shallow, she's sure to be upset
you forgot to hallow your romance;
If she's of any worth, then I'll bet
you'll still receive a kiss or dance
part of the evening to a song
that'll endure in your memory long.

Like Christmas, it's over commercialized... Well written! Sylva.
