Vesper Candelabrum Poem by A.Z. McCoy

Vesper Candelabrum

The vesper candelabrum wishes
To reach its dying heat to dawn
Dig into the earth's fertile
Sediment, and excavate
Strange bugs in slumber
Clicks o'mysterious heartfelt song
What a curious carousel
Of sentiment
Too soon still for it,
For hot wax to melt land's lip
Cool itself on
What might rise
With the risks evening takes
In stretched long shadow
Crouched in crisp cool breath
In wait for dark velvet call
The dying colors laugh muted gray
Magic happens now
Its signals rap on barndoors
Haywired in ephemeral melody
She doesn't have to blow
For the flame to dance
This strange ceremony
Split our consciousness
Along chasm's divide
Charm the country doctor on his rounds
Cloaked with his bag of instruments,
Silent glint in dark woven loom
The ornaments of the unreal
Dangle at day's end
Push the drummer boy silhouettes on-
Ward to dawn
