Wake The Wisteria Poem by Leslie Alexis

Wake The Wisteria

Walk with me to wake the wisteria
For while she sleeps the bride’s unveiled,
The aisle is readying for the hour
The man and woman can dovetail

The pond is melted the sun is warming
The lily and lotus to serenade
Dahlias and roses into performing
The dance called ‘Garland-escapade’

The duck is swaying the frog to croak
The riveting rib-bit coming to aid
Of crickets choking on monkey jokes
Of places where sun never fades:

Tropical lands beyond these seas
Where cold and hot never trades
Marrying is seen up in the trees
All year long lovers promenade.

The tulips bring a burst of hope
A flowery bride love persuades
The aisle is set that they elope;
To wait longer love forbade.

The woken wisteria calls the groom
Behind the veil the bride is made:
filled with love that he will consume
Keeping his heart forever unswayed.
Through chance and coming seasons
Love will bring new escapades.
