Walk Da People Poem by Chenjerai Mhondera

Walk Da People

Rating: 4.4

Everywhere men are wanderers
Africa is da destination.
Hold no to sorrow.
Pick self, gather up to destination;
Destination is through revolution,
You walk to the hilltop,
You see we are one people;
From ancient tribes
To modern man;
Every government is illegal
Except she that holds supreme
Dignity of mankind;
The black and white hair equal,
And ride man not down to the valley of sorrow;
No coronation of man is better than coronation men and nation;
To the sound of humanity,
Men live by revelation;
Do not shy when they say there is no tomorrow,
Stand up and save tomorrow
To eat da bread of tomorrow.
There is no straightforwardness
In eyes of the oppressor;
Man who control no power pressed down
Like seeds from the weaver and wine-presser;
There is no life for da seed
Except for one who get oil from seed's tears.
Good men never rule da people;
Movement walks da people;
From Babylon to da land far away;
Da land of da people.
You wanna live in da city,
Where you are always a stranger;
That is if you are an artist to da heart;
Some might call you possessed,
But you have gotta to believe in yourself
That even mad man is a unique man;
If your heart says go, you have gotta to follow it;
Your heart is no runaway advice;
Da right, man live is treasure man find in his heart.
You have gotta not to say no to your salvation
For good to win over evil -
Even as evil flood everywhere, right is no a slave;
Stand and say right to right;
You gonna die in da course,
But right, die no with you on da day;
Right, lives on;
Right has a cause;
Right's determination.
You gonna chop it like wood,
And bury it in soil like man in a grave,
But right, rise
And germinate into a giant seed
To speak to all humanity
That evil is triviality and vanity
To see no eternity

A thought provoking poem highlighting the aspirations of people in Africa who were oppressed and treated not as human beings by then rulers.
