War And The Elusive Peace Poem by C. Albert Andrews

War And The Elusive Peace

Dreamers dream no more of peace
Soldiers see no end to wars
Victory slips by, heroes go with it.
Generals seek peace only on battle fields
From guns and tanks, bombs and rockets.
Children crying, babies dying
Mother running from buildings burning.
Peace! Could you come through fighting?
Rocks throwing and tanks firing.
Rockets launching, bombs dropping.
Peace, oh Peace we yearn for thee!
Be no more elusive but attainable
Stand no more in distant fields
Embrace us; let your warmth be felt
Instead of pain and sorrow.
No more cries from our children
Bloody streets no more.
War! Scorn of peaceful nations
Enemy of life, friend to no one
Its legacy inflicts pain.
Inscribes blood on history's page.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is my deepest thoughts of how elusive peace is and the pain war causes. My intention is to make it feel real to my readers.

i like that you mentioned tanks, bombs, and rockets each twice. not only do i like the sound of it for some reason, but it is kind of a picture of wars or what wars have been in years gone by. unfortunately, though your appeal to peace is very well done, i doubt it will have any influence on our futures.....at least not on battlefields. i think generals do what they are supposed to do. the politicians, diplomats, citizens at home, and commercial ventures are likely to be the ones who find peaceful solutions to conflicts. nice thoughts you have.
