Wasps Create Kaleidoscopic Psychedelic Coloured Nests Poem by Terence George Craddock

Wasps Create Kaleidoscopic Psychedelic Coloured Nests

wasps not the most
appreciated desired
insect new neighbours

industrious architects
insect builders create
species colony worlds

hive nest minds
construct wasp nests
do colour rules

limit construction choices
wasps do not differentiate
well between primary

to shade choices
see red as black like
flower colours

wasps will employ
design surprises
in an experiment

conducted by Mattia Menchetti
a biology student at the University
of Florence Italy using captive

European paper wasps
given different coloured
paper over experiment

time tiny paper wasp builders
transformed their nest homes
into a functional kaleidoscope

of psychedelic colors

wasps were buzzing
meticulously constructing
wasp psychedelic nests

nest testament to wasp creativity
reflecting hues of paper provided
attendance at an insect art class

not need wasps
long ago mastered
construct techniques
