Watching Life Like A Blackbird In Midair Poem by Mark Heathcote

Watching Life Like A Blackbird In Midair

I have walked in the snow—in circles.
In ever-decreasing wide circles
with no destination to take me to any place
and at this lonely juncture,
In the patina of melting snow, ice, and moonlight
I have never been more at peace
then scanning these dark majestic woods for life
a resin sap am I cooling into nonexistence
viewing life like a remote blackbird in midair
but yet grounded like never before
inspecting the river eddies swirl and loop.
It's in their transient essence; we are by nature all here.
Observing one another—taking tomorrow
to be our bride even if she's thawing or thawed
and now unregretfully changed her mind.

I have walked in the snow—in circles.
With no destination to take me to any place
and at this lonely juncture,
I have never felt more at peace
then scanning the woods for life
a resin sap am I cooling into nonexistence
watching life like a blackbird in midair
but yet grounded like never before
watching the river eddies swirl and loop.
It's in their transient essence; we are all here.
Observing one another—taking tomorrow
to be our bride even if she's thawing or thawed
and now unregretfully changed her mind.

With no destination to take me to any place
and at this lonely juncture,
It's all been beautiful, and I don't need
a saviour to descend from the sky
I'll be just happy to die
The happiest person you'll ever meet or know.
Counting pots of gold under a rainbow.
