Water Carriers Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Water Carriers

Water carriers

Is morning of Sunday
-coffee mug in front, I listen.

Woman on radio…
-has gone to Africa;
-sounds concerned,
-has good voice,
-in detail, she reports.

"Tanzania's problem,
-shortage of clean water."

And goes on reporting,
-talks with men and women
-in around springs, hospital,
- "In the size of two cars, "

I praise what she does.

Sounds city dueller;
-born and raised in the hives,
-within walls and blind…

Behind what she talks of
-lies, love-hate stories,
-rendezvous secretly,
-and meeting in hiding;
-having sex, pregnant…

No source of abortion
-embarrassed…
-suicide, due to shame.

Reporter has sent this
-to "Sunday Edition, "
- (short, curtailed.)

Feel sad for audience
-they hear, visualise
-from a huge Moon,
-only piece, crescent.
