The roaring waves across the sea,
Have stirred deep grief inside of me.
My trembling heart is filled with pain,
Yet finds no words its wounds explain.
A heavy sorrow clouds my breast,
And gives my weary soul no rest.
How can a love so deep and true
Be torn apart and bid adieu?
Just yesterday, my lovely dear,
Still wore her gentle smile so near.
That graceful face, so sweet, so bright,
I never thought would leave my sight.
Yet with the dawn of this new day,
My precious love has gone away.
And I am left in silence here,
Alone with longing and with tears.
Awaking to an empty room,
My heart is wrapped in lonely gloom.
O love, take pity on my pain,
For loss now falls like endless rain.
I live alone with no one near,
And hide my sorrow year by year.
While swallowing tears that freely start,
And nursing grief within my heart.
This heart belongs to you alone,
And never will your memory be gone.
No passing time, no distant mile,
Can make me leave your cherished smile.
For you were faithful, kind, and true,
No other soul compares to you.
And none beneath the moonlit span
Could ever take the place you can.
