We Love The Both Of You! - Poem by Dónall Dempsey

You invent
an imaginary friend.
“My me! ”
you point to yourself
“Me me! ”
you point to the emptiness
beside you.
We laugh.

Call this other you
“Mimi! ”
Your imaginary friend is a version of yourself
an invisible twin
that you explain
yourself to
chastise
tell the world to
creating a person & a persona
Lego block by Lego block

someone you
can believe in.
You point to
yourself
“See...me! ”
Then to your(self) in the mirror.
“See...Me me! ”
“Me me...and me...too! ”
We love the both of you.
