We Value What Is Ego-Based Poem by Mark Heathcote

We Value What Is Ego-Based

We value a precious stone.
But much less a sapphire flower.
We value what is ego-based.
And less what has no power.
We value faith but break all trust.
Because lust has lots more sway over us.
We value friendship, but to what end?
And we question: how will it serve us?
Let's not pretend.
We value love, but at what cost?
Am I willing to lose all or part of myself?
We value life but never death.
And yet death has always placed.
The highest payday loan on you,
You see, we value many things in earnest.
But never the real insurmountable cost,
Erstwhile not until
It's all finalised, tallied up, and lost.
