We Who Live Here Poem by Anugo J. Edoka

We Who Live Here

WE WHO LIVE HERE

We who walk through the sun's roast

On bare foot, gnashing teethe on daily routine

We who bow and kneel to pray the most

For a lighter burden, for envisaged cuisine

We who persevere in the face of hopelessness

Watching on as our burdens inflate

Losing grasp of the dreams of a better life

We who gaze at the magic as the sun sets.

Wishing the miracle would subdue the hurt;

Of a heavy heart and agonizing thought

We whose tears are red

With weakened will that's underfed

Appeasing our conscience for the visit of peace

But live in silence for the sake of fear

We who vote;

On a believer's note.

Believing another try

But debacle after debacle

Results betray our faith

We who hunger in no little ways

With our bodies inventing newer diseases

From dreaded ones to the incurable case

Emitting death in no small releases

We who live next to death

Sitting side by side with poverty.

Who delibrate with putting life to bed

Inherited struggle,our only property.
