Welcome To The Jungle! Poem by Denis Martindale

Welcome To The Jungle!

My garden jungle's full of stuff, the kind that makes me sigh,
The kind of stuff that I can't love yet hates to say goodbye!
I watch them grow with moans and groans and with a solemn face,
The weeds and vines on paving stones as if they own the place!

They climb the fences every day, six feet and sometimes more,
With more attacks still on the way! No mercy, that's for sure!
My jungle trimmer's set to go if not too hot or cold,
I grab it firmly, just like so, with both hands taking hold.

And then I swoop just like a hawk! Weeds flying here and there!
It's time for action, not for talk, except, of course, in prayer!
And so, from left to right I swerve, to trim, trim, trim again,
I'm so far past a learning curve to do what I'll do then.

The blades rotate! Slice once! Slice twice! Until the power goes!
And then I rest, and that's quite nice, as every gardener knows.
The dustbin fills up pretty soon with what I chose to chop,
That's when, late in the afternoon, I call things to a stop!

Then I stagger back to my house, walking kind of funny,
With one last look as if to browse! Thankful I've saved money!
I've saved a lot, that's why I thank what jungle trimmers do!
More cash for me inside my bank to spend on you know who!

Here is a war poem by the Poemhunter poet Denis Martindale. The title of the war poem is 'WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE! ' and it's about the ongoing war against all the weeds and vines and creepy-crawly things in my garden. It's not just those dangly thingies on the left and right. I've got to plan my attack on the front, side and back! All this and a heatwave, too. Nobody told me that it was going to be easy! And they were right!
