What Don Juan De Marco Knows, A Home Pome Poem by Glen Kappy

What Don Juan De Marco Knows, A Home Pome

May you be intoxicated always
by her love. Proverbs 5: 19

I've known bliss
with her
but must begin again.

I've felt teasing—
primal, intense—
adoring hands
wonders under silks
soaring ecstasies—

but they must be
as at the first—
a mystery.

Courter once again
I must rapture
at a distant glimpse of her—
apart from time
delight in every feature.

Then once again
to touch her hand will thrill
like consummation.

This is the way two people stay in love - they actively renew their passion. It's an act of will because time has used up all of its spontaneity, but just beneath the cooler surface they can still access the original passion. Does the title refer to a movie with an aged Marlon Brando and Johnny Depp?

yes, it does. strange as it may seem, this was my takeaway from the film. i've heard people talk about the importance of dates and vacations for nurturing a marriage. and though this advice may sound corny, it's really true in my experience. two people living together and carrying on with day-to-day responsibilities can't help with their differences getting on each other's nerves. so time away from those things becomes so important. you're the first to comment on this one! thank you, daniel. -glen
