A snatch of Mariachi music
as I pass a hotel window
summons tropical colors
of plants and clothes
the warmth and taste
of fresh tortillas
bolillos broken
then spread with avocado
papaya eaten with a squirt of lime
and beaches and ocean
and swimming pools
and the security of parents near
in Mexico in summer.
So even if the lead laments
it's still a song of daylight
the life displayed
in outdoor cafes
a song that knows that sorrows too
must sometimes spice our lives
that laughter will again return
to the clink of Dos Equis
and frosted margaritas
with food to fill our bellies
family and friends to share it with
and all there is to greet us
in the welcome world outside.
A fabulous write promoting the excitement of Mexico. Celebrating glorious food with the joy of music. What an atmosphere.
Thank you, Lyn. My memories and associations with Mexico are mostly positive. For another side, if you're interested, see my poem " Skeleton Dog." -Glen
When you have passed through a hotel window you have captured a of Mariachi music and the memory presented in this excellent poem. A nice poem is selected as the member poem of the day. Congratulations and thank you very much for sharing this.
Hey, Kumarmani! You’re welcome—I’m happy for the opportunity to share it. And thank you once again for your kind comments. Blessings to you. -Glen
Dear Poet, thank you for reminding us the simple joys of life - Mariachi music, family and friends to share, the warmth and taste of fresh tortillas and many more! Congratulations on your poem being chosen as POD.
You’re welcome, Banamala. And thank you for your comment. I’ve “met” several people today here at PH in connection with this poem, and I’m glad to meet you. A thing about the simple joys is that we only need enough of necessities to enjoy them, and a constant prayer of mine is that all of us the world over would have enough of them. -Glen
Congratulations for a lovely poem about the joy in life with music, colour, seasons, the friends and even the food! Agree with this line - a song that knows that sorrows too must sometimes spice our lives Thank you.
Malabika, this is the first time, I think, I’ve seen your name and gotten a comment from you. If so, good to meet you here in the international community of PH. And yes, sorrows are part pf this life, and if it weren’t for them, would our happiness and joy be as keen? The best to you. Glen
