What, If Not A Cage? Poem by moon batchelder

What, If Not A Cage?

what is - if not a cage - society?
that suffers every member to a branding;
assigning worth and proper social standing
according to some vague propriety!
rewarding variance with reprimanding;
extolling such as freedom. - notwithstanding,
contrary requisites for 'piety'!
what is - if not a cage - society?

what is - if not a trap - this paradigm?
so set in stone, nor other truth revealing.
pretentious! owns itself alone appealing.
shows one reality - not more - sublime!
demands we play our hand, (whoever's dealing!)
declares as fair the game, while ace concealing.
still not to follow suit is deemed a crime!
what is - if not a trap - this paradigm?

COMMENTS OF THE POEM

Though I find the narrative, not to my liking, I can't help but think that this is a well written poem. The use of verse and metre are well employed and it flow well. the language is well thought out.
