What Is 'The Will Of God? ' Poem by Chuy Amante

What Is 'The Will Of God? '

'The Will of God' you say,
please define that
for me today.

Of whose Will do you really speak?
The Great One's Will or your little squeak?

Pray you do to influence your God?
'Moisten the land, too much dry clod'

Pray for rain, pray for relief of pain?
Pray for the wicked, pray for the Lame?

Are you praying to change the current situation?
Whose Will is the current
default position?

If left alone,
as things exactly are now,
would not that be God
and his great allow?

To beg for change, different than as seen?
Would this change the Mind of an Infinite Being?

How much power does man really have?
YOUR desire, YOUR strength,
are maybe your golden calves?

As things unfold,
as they play out,
Is this a big plan,
or do you have doubt?

Plead, pray, cry and demand,
change God's Will to that
of small, limited, feeble man?

Whose perspective is grand and ever so broad?
Yours little people,
or that of an Omniscient God?

Profound and very human, a universal quest for answers (as though that were simple and possible) but then truth is inside us if we look close enough. I have always believed God made man good and His will for us is good. Or else He would not be God. However excellent His will for us is, Man was given free will - the freedom to choose his ways and his end. As we see from history (practical view) Man made all the wrong choices like war, political chaos, poverty (destroying the environment) , greed, pride, crime, illnesses, and all the things around us NOW that we can never qualify as good. Was it God Who caused all these? Forget there is a God for a moment. As all atheists do, no God. Who made all these happen? Was it not man? From history - was it not man who made all those wars out of greed for power and wealth? Set up religions for Money and fame? Was it not man who invented the atomic bomb and all other nuclear and chemical weapons that continue to cause us cancer and slow death? Was it not us who breed anger and bitterness in our homes, that which we teach our children today, and which we now harvest - such a dark and vile generation without God. That is the will of man.
