What Might Have Been Poem by Akham Nilabirdhwaja Singh

What Might Have Been

I sometimes wonder what the culture, tradition, and customs of my people might have been like before the native religion was banned by the royal decree and another faith was imposed three hundred years ago.

What the ancient culture might have become by now if it had been allowed to grow naturally from the soil of our land -nourished by the wisdom of our ancestors, who lived by its customs and way of life.

I wonder what the character of our society might have evolved into if our old ancestral faith, culture and traditions had continued to flourish.
