What My Grandmother Said To Me Poem by nisha dyrene

What My Grandmother Said To Me

Rating: 5.0

Beware the manipulative tongue
It will spew a sweet poison to paralyze your instincts

Turn Away from eyes that cry too easily
Their emotion wells from a shallow puddle

Do not kiss lips that cannot keep promises
They belong to a fickle heart and a roving eye

Whisper no secrets into ears that do not believe you
For they do not trust nor can be trusted

Accept not apologies for faults repeated
There will always be another one to follow soon

Run away from a lover who cannot make you laugh
For he will soon steal your smile

Cast aside one who seeks his pleasure first and forgets yours
He does not know the meaning of passion

Give not your time to a mind in a hurry
That does not know the import of staying a while with yours

Cling not to the body that has no respect for itself
For it will never respect yours

Turn your back on a mind that sets a price on people
For it can never afford to love
