What On Earth Are We? Poem by Denis Martindale

What On Earth Are We?

I'd like to think Christ's coming soon, so that He sorts things out,
Perhaps He'll come this afternoon and somehow end the doubt...
But Christians must await God's time, look forward to God's day,
Because that time will be sublime! No wonder that we pray!
Till then, we're here, still wondering, just what on Earth are we?
The faithful servants of our King and all we're meant to be?

A world that's on its way to Hell needs us to play our role,
If not, we fail the world as well, each heart and mind and soul...
A voice that's in the wilderness still has the power of prayer,
By day and night it seeks to bless, no matter what the hour...
Each Christian has that voice within, it's even in our dreams
And once baptised, lost souls to win, despite life's mad extremes...

It's why we preach and tithe and fast, it's why God's favour grows,
Through revelation first to last, God's finest overflows!
