Age is cause for action to a broken frame
A skeleton rickety like an old house frame
In a hospital bed living on pain killers so addictive
Not really caring and a preference to not live
Then I reflected on previous wars where real brave men fell
In open fields their healthy limbs shot and blown to hell
Here I am spoilt by powerful drugs and brilliant surgeons all around
One push of my bedside button and assistance is found
My mind goes to the Western Front where broken men lay dying
Their pain unattended their screams not heard bullets and shells still flying
My reflections now break me for being so cold
I'm not fighting or dying for my country I'm just getting old
