What Will It Be Like? Poem by Austin Terando

What Will It Be Like?

When Winter comes, I will return
To see you, even now I yearn
But you won't be you, and I won't be me
Because it's been so long since we were we

After I left, you learned that I loved you
When I come back, it will be a new hue
Will you be scared, will you evade?
Don't shun me because you're afraid

Across the nation, it's easy to talk
When there, I promise to not stalk
But promises break, I might go crazy
My words might slip, and I might just say 'we'

I'm scared to hate your friend again
Blame me not, but the hearts of men
Time will tell, and then we'll see
On return, how it will be
