What would I ask of Gabriel,
if I could speak to him
in my heart's sacred cave?
But, in what medium would we talk?
I must know his language, and he, too,
must know my language.
Or is a language needed at all
to talk to the divine
or to his archangel Gabriel?
What truths would I seek from Gabriel—
about my essence and existence—
from the depths of his divine wisdom,
a reflection of celestial intelligence,
to ease my worries
and quiet my fears?
To enlighten and make me aware
of the deepest meanings of the Qur'an.
I would ask him of my days long past,
since the divine designed me in his image,
or of the days racing towards me
with alarming speed.
Or perhaps, I'd inquire of him
how to offer thanks to the divine
for the wisdom he bestowed upon me,
and for creating in me space to reside within
and manifest his great powers through me?
