When Comes Yama Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

When Comes Yama

When Yama, the god of death comes
He with the call,
I shall have to go,
When comes he Yama,
The Messenger of Lord-God,
Yama, the god of death
Will come to take me away.

Said or unsaid will he come
Taking the warrant
To take the prisoner away,
The telegram delivered in haste
Seeking attention,
The god of death will come
To take the soul away.

I with tears into the eyes of mine
And the hands folded
Shall pray before,
Yama,
With my nilly-nilly
Seeking time,
But on the errand he is.

From the sick-bed I shall rise,
Light the candle
In my dark and desolate cottage
To be with Yama
In a huff,
With nothing to take,
Nothing to accompany me,
Bare-footed and empty-handed.
