When Death Comes Knocking Poem by Ndimancho T Nyowikeh

When Death Comes Knocking

When death knocks at your door,
Let it be a fair one.
And when I'm dead,
Let me be your illustrious ancestor.
Pray not for any!
Pour libation only to gods.
For we commune in the rods.

When death comes knocking,
Fear not the encroaching force.
Moan not, my dear comrades.
Don't question its untimely nature.

When death comes knocking,
Do not scream, why!
Pray not for the repose of the souls.
Do not go on a requiem.
But call a worship.

When death comes knocking,
Only the gods are privy to the summon.
To the seed of the womb;
Only the gods give the choice.
When the raindrops,
The sun shines,
The earth revolves,
Like death, all holds to nature.

When death comes knocking,
Let it be that which was written.
For I will tell you, dear comrades.
Verily, I say unto you.
No death can be untimely!
Death comes as the gods doth choose.
