When Smiles Are Lost Poem by RACHEL ZARANTONELLO

When Smiles Are Lost

A broken heart still beats.
But in time will grow stone cold
It takes the sparkle from your eyes
Stays quiet instead of bold.
If I tell you I don't want you,
Will you then be on your way?
Can you see it in my eyes?
The words I did not say?
You made my days brighter,
Just by being you.
Laughter helps to heal the broken.
You've shown this to be true.
Where did all the smiles go?
Did they simply fade away?
As time went by, they were lost
Missing more and more each day.
Will they know how hard I tried,
Just to feel like I really did matter?
Some of us were never meant
for Happily Ever After.
