When The Shepherd Came Poem by Gary James Smith

When The Shepherd Came

Rating: 5.0

When the Shepherd came to shepherds
Upon that Christmas day
It was as a babe in a manger
The Truth...the Life...the Way
In His wondrous Incarnation
As God became a man
Immanuel God was with them
As Jesus the great I Am

Heaven could not refrain from singing
Their highest hosannas that day
For glory came down from Heaven to abide
With those who'd gone astray
And a life lived without one sin
Became sins full sacrifice
His shed blood obtained our redemption
Praise God for Jesus Christ

To know the Shepherd with such love
There is no greater acclaim
To be a sinner saved by grace
Through trusting in Jesus name
Praise God I repented of my sin
When I learned of Calvary
I now am shepherded in my faith
By His Spirit living in me

O Shepherd I'm glad you came
For a sinner such as I
And for the wealth of your forgiveness
Which money can never buy
Just a broken and a contrite heart
Are precious in your site
O for a soul to make a choice
To receive you Lord tonight!
