When We Sleep Poem by Cassandra Kinman

When We Sleep

Where do you go when you sleep?
'You go to your dreams', you say.
But do you?
Oh, you have some dreams,
Some nightmares, it seems.
But where do you go in between?
Not to mention,
Can you really remember your dreams?
You remember them as a past memory,
As if through a fog.
Have you ever woke up smiling or laughing?
A smile on your face,
Or an ache in your chest?
Do you remember why?
Perhaps our soul goes somewhere else,
While our body rests.
More questions than answers.
More feeling than fact.
But it is a wonderful, mind-boggling question.
Where do we go when we sleep?
