When We Were Us Poem by Dónall Dempsey

When We Were Us

Rating: 5.0

Oh the rain soaked kisses
that recall & recall
as if they were
a fairy story

we once lived in
a long long time agao.
Our once upon a time time
& we the Prince & Princess
of our own happiness.

But somehow
it turned out wrong
& I say: “Oh, love...
what great big lies you tell! ”
And you say: “All the better
to destroy the story of us
with! ”

And so I live
unhappy ever after
you deconstructing
in a Post-Modern way
the tale
that use to be us
when...we were
us.
