Where Are The Daffodils Poem by Dorothy (Alves) Holmes

Where Are The Daffodils

Where Are the Daffodils

The garden wizard
shook me from my sleep,
he huffed and puffed, his
book for gardens, in a heap.

how could you? ', he cried
face in a frown and red,
how could you forget my
favorite flower beds? '

which one Sire? ' I whispered
in timid voice...
why do you rant and rave so,
You will fall off your horse? '

Look around! ' he thundered,
I do not see one trace, where
are the dancing daffodils with
white hats and faces of orange lace?

The daffodils are on parade Sire,
in every town
they are being honored at Daffodil Festivals
all over the world in busy fairgrounds.

In white, orange and yellow they will show off
their beauty, and Sire, it is my duty to take
you where they can be found, beautiful
in windows, wagons, at the festival in our town.

Why wasn't I told about this, the wizard in quiet
voice did say,
I am glad you are a dutiful gardner so please
forgive my ill-tempered display.

Then the wizard smiled and gave a gracious bow,
tipped his crown as he turned around,
just in time to hear the music of trumpet blaring,
where a thousand daffodils sounds were nearing.

Yes the daffodils were heading home, to
gardens missing their blooms.
The came in creamy yellow, and sparkling white,
their orange faces glowing in wondrous delight.

So back to sleep I go,
for soon they will all be hiding
under the snow.
