Where The Sugar Cane Grow Poem by Francis Duggan

Where The Sugar Cane Grow

Her hair is as black as the wings of a crow
The one from the place where the sugar cane grow
Her skin like her eyes is a lovely dark brown
She yearns for the warmth of her Queensland Hometown
She will be back home for the Sunshine Coast Spring
When in the Townpark the green figbirds will sing
Where at evenings she will lay by the beach in the shade of the palm trees
Relaxed and content in the cool ocean breeze
That one can feel homesick even in their Homeland
Is something that is not hard to understand
Most people have in them a strong sense of place
Something that transcends Nationality and Race
The chill winds of Winter across the southern town blow
And she pines for the place where the sugar cane grow.
