Whiskered Why - Lincoln Park Zoo Poem by Ima Ryma

Whiskered Why - Lincoln Park Zoo

Whiskers the way we seals check out
What's up (or down or to the side) .
Puppy dog eyes and smiling snout
Are cute, but whiskers be the guide.
Sensors that detect and relay
Underwater changes of flow.
Is it a fish on which to prey?
Or danger, danger doncha know!
Vision and hearing oft don't aid
In murky, muffled waters deep.
So thanks to whiskers nature made,
We're not left guessing, 'What the (bleep) ! '

With whiskers whisking, we seals do
Check you out at Lincoln Park Zoo.
