Whitney Poem by Tony Assumang

Whitney

Rating: 5.0

One day I will write a poem about you
And read it to you
In the night, when everyone is asleep
Till you fall asleep
In my arms where you belong
But if my poem doesn't send you to sleep
I will sing you a song

Like a sweetener in my mouth
My lips get excited when they say your name
My mouth can't keep calm
With your name in it but shout
Your name defines the origin of a dame
Oh, if only you will permit me
I will keep your name in the deepest sacred part of me
Where it can't find its way out

She glows in the dark at night
Making fireflies less bright
Her hair like a cascading waterfall
Crashing down upon her shoulders
And flowing down her back
Her laugh is like a rainbow-tainted spray
Her eyes as stars of twilight fair
Competing with the brightness of the night stars
Her name Whitney, rhymes with honey
And her beauty, fervent as a fiery moon
