Who Is Gonna Cry Over You? Poem by Della Perry

Who Is Gonna Cry Over You?

Who is gonna cry over you?
You are my teacher, my guide,
Albeit not the best one!
I reflect, I judge, I condemn,
Too rapidly, time releases truths to me.
A small hidden gateway reveals your intentions, thoughts.
There was no malice, just survival,
The only way you knew how,
The only way that you were taught.
To be rough and tough and hard as nails!
I'm sorry I judged recklessly,
It isn't easy on the other side of the mental abuse you know!
But of course you did know!
I see that now; you weren't smart enough to change.
Compassion, never left my side,
Hatred, I hid behind it well.
I will cry over you, when the time comes,
So will the others if they dare to admit it.
To love isn't a weakness.
You are just yourself,
As I am just me.
We can't change the past,
We can't change the hurt deep down,
But we can love now anyway
We can learn to forgive each other.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Some people are hard work, try your patience, pick on you, but you must live and learn from these people, as much as you learn from the good people. For no-one is perfect, we all have a past that shapes our future and it isn't always a pretty one.
