Why? Poem by Candika Niada

Why?

Rating: 5.0

A life full of hardships
Was placed before you
In your mothers womb.
An angel born into a world of wickedness.
She tried to shelter you
From each devestating storm.
But, she Failed.
Instead, she gave you a life of hell,
A life with absolutely no mercy.
Why do you cling to her so?
And what makes her so damned perfect?
How can you so easily forget
Each strike of her hatred tongue?
Or the constant smell of the whiskey
On her breath?
Can you still feel her palm
Sting across your cheek?
Or the sound of her cold heart
As she put you down time and time again?
Tell me why do you love her?
And why do you defend
Her honor in such a way?
She has wronged you all your life
With each drink, each puff,
Not to mention the times she has stolen from you.
She stole your money,
Filled your head with lies,
And now, she has finally taken your dignity.
Tell me why is it you continue
To let her hurt you so.
Why do you let her abuse your trust?
Is it because she is your mother?
She doesn't love you.
A real mother doesn't do those things.
Maybe things will change for you,
Hopefully for the better.
However, only you can change them.
