Why Are You Ashamed Poem by Randy McClave

Why Are You Ashamed

Why are you so ashamed of me
As I am not ashamed of you,
Is it because of what others see
Or maybe because of what you say or do.
Is it because I am not like other men
Or maybe it's because of the color or my hair,
Or perhaps where I have lived or maybe had been
Why are you so ashamed, when people stare,
Maybe it is really because of my age
That causes you to say the things that you say,
Truthfully, I just feel sadness and never rage
When in shame because of me, you walk away.
You have given your family and friends lies and excuses
Whenever you and I are together,
Sadness and pity is what those words produces
And me being ashamed of you, or anyone.... never!
Jesus, himself was denied three times
Those words are written truthfully in the Holy Bible,
Though those denials weren't caused by any crimes
You have denied me hundred times more that the disciple.
Please tell me, if your brother whom you love were gay
Would you also feel shameful and humiliated,
And then for him would you cry and pray
Or maybe him would you have just ignored and hated.
If you had a child that was mentally slow
Would you accept them who they had become,
Wouldn't all of their difficulties you happily K.O
And never would you see them as stupid, slow or dumb.
I have given you all that I have, and what I do own
But, still unto your family and friends I stay unnamed,
To you seemingly I must always atone
Please tell me, of myself why are you so ashamed.
