Why Be You Poem by Randy McClave

Why Be You

I could be mean If I wanted to be
And I could also be very rude and unkind,
I could be a bully because I'm better than he or she
Or I could be all the above combined.
I could pretend that I don't know who you are
Or instead of you I could be embarrassed and ashamed,
To you I could be hateful and be very bizarre
And the people that I care for, you are never named.
I could break promises if I really wanted
And I could always seek out some tears and pity,
From the problems of others I could easily feel undaunted
And with lies and sarcasm I could always be witty.
I could tell lies upon lies, I guess if I ever needed
And I guess I could always make everyone believe my lies as truth,
I could always easily be very smart and caring and conceded
That is, if no one ever sought out a sleuth.
I could smoke and I could drink with the best of them
While all along talking bad about you,
I could make people believe that I love humming a hymn
Because that's not mean uncaring people do.
I could tell others easily that I'm religious and devout
And I never deliberately or wantonly commit sin,
But, then I could turn around and take a different route
If I wanted to ever use other women and men.
I could easily become a completely different person
In a seat in hell from my deeds and acts I could always be seated,
I could swear, steal, judge and make anyones life worsen
But, then why would I be you, by the way that I was treated.
