Why Did You Come? Poem by Arun Maji

Why Did You Come?

Rating: 5.0

Smile in your eyes
And I am happy.
Beauty in your bosom
And I am proud.

Why?
Why am I burnt
Seeing lightening in your eyes?
Why am I achy
Seeing fire in your lips?

I never asked you to come.
Yet you came.
I didn't ask you to smile either.
Yet you did.
Why?

And now, my night is lost
In your dream.
My thought is lost
In your mysterious eyes.
My days are lost
In your unending thought.

You know-
Long ago, I was unable to bear
Pain of my thirsty young-hood.
My old beloved
Poetry kept teasing me then.
So I exiled her.

Today, she is knocking my door?
Why? Why is she back now?

I know well
You would never be mine.
Yet why did you come?
If you had come
Why did you have to see me
With your all-consuming eyes?

Now I am aching.
I am twisting turning and dying.
I am agonizingly agonized.

O beautiful, o my death
If you had to kill me
Why didn't you stab me?
Why are you tormenting me
With your presence in my dream?
