Why Do I Love Him So? Poem by Sandra Black

Why Do I Love Him So?

Rating: 5.0

Why do I love him so?
I keep away from him
But in my heart I know
Only he can make my heart beat so

Thump thump thump
it goes wildly in staccato
My cheeks turn as red as a tomato
Without him I'm down in the dump

I plod on day to day
He is not mine
I'm not here to stay
I repeat to myself everyday

Then again he speaks
And in my knees I go weak
It's only his words I seek
Thoughts that touch my depths and peaks

No more do I expect
Life's too late to be resurrect
Yearn his touch
The feel of him

It is no more sin
But just a great glitch
Two hearts parted
And to others hitched

Strange human binds
And rituals earthly kinds
When all that matters
Is union of minds

Encased in coloured shells
That can never be conjoined
Beauty and the beast
To say the least

Trappings of power
Increase by the hour
They convince me of folly mine
Why do I love him so?
