Why Does Everything Need The Brain? * Poem by Mohammad Younus

Why Does Everything Need The Brain? *

Why does everything need the brain—
To see, yet never truly see,
To hear, yet miss the melody,
To speak with words that echo stillness,
To feel what touch cannot reveal,
To think as thoughts dissolve and flee,
To grasp what slips from perception's grasp?

Sleeping, waking,
Illusion cradling enlightenment,
Action melting into inaction—
A dance of knowing and forgetting.
What must the brain consume to thrive?
If life depends on its designs,
Why does it falter, crack, and fade,
When the vessel crumbles, breathless?

Who guides the pathways of this mind?
Is it I who rules the web of thought,
Or am I but a marionette,
Tugged by unseen, unyielding strings?
Is the self a spark divine,
Or just a shadow neurons cast—
A paradox—unraveling the weaver of my soul?
