Why Is The Human Heart So Hard? Poem by Terence George Craddock

Why Is The Human Heart So Hard?

Rating: 4.5

Why are the poor
with nothing
or starvation coins
more generous
than an elite
proud rich?

Why do heartless
thugs prey upon
the old
the weak
the infirm
the sick?

Why do we let
police deny
human rights
to the homeless
the disinherited
on skid row?

Why are the homeless
destitute arrested
incarcerated

so we do not

have to look
upon their filth
poverty suffering need?

Why is the human
heart so hard
so unforgiving
so lacking
in love kindness
respect?

If we want
our trespasses
forgiven
as we forgive those
who trespass
against us

then we better start
thinking about
how we forgive
if we forgive;

because those
who do not forgive
are apparently
praying
not to be forgiven
themselves?

God let me be
more sinned against
than sinning.

God let me turn
the other cheek and return
curse evil to none.

God when I am old tired
worn out remember me
and take me home.

Because this is not my home
these cruel inhuman streets
of humanity are alien to me

I am just passing
through on my way
back to you.
