Why Now Complain Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Why Now Complain

How can anyone,
Claiming to be conscious.
Without doubt to question.
Or suspect common sense is defective.
Would believe giving a child a hand grenade,
Eliminates eminent danger.
To later express shock and surprise,
That child detonated the hand grenade.
Done to do to then excuse,
A blowing away...
Half of a neighborhood block.
With this then to say...

"It was only a small one.
Who knew it would cause such devastation?
I didn't.
Did you?
Nothing done for these kids today,
Is ever appreciated.
Hopefully a lesson will be learned from this."

-Uh...
Don't take this personally.
But I think you are in need of a shrink! .
Not just any shrink.
The best around money can afford.-

"Sure.
Go ahead blame me.
When I stopped my child,
From having fun playing with the other kids...
Burning down homes around here.
No one said a thing.
But looked at me with their rolling eyes.
To then rumor and gossip,
About me being a party pooper.
And being 'stand-offish'.
Now they want to accuse ME to be,
An unfit parent?
When just a few months ago,
I was elected president...
Of the parents and teachers association.
You know...The PTA? "

-Well...
With your leadership abilities.
And obvious capability to persuade.
Perhaps you are the one needed,
To begin a trend around here.
Something has to be done.
Without pointing the finger at someone else.-

"So you are saying,
My judgement misplaced...
Might be beneficial,
If to others I admit it? "

-Of course.
But...
See that 'shrink' first.
Look at it as positive criticism.-

"What about the others? "

-Convince them this will make,
A difference in how they raise their children.-
