Why Seek When Your Breath Stirs The Air I Breathe? Poem by Mohammad Younus

Why Seek When Your Breath Stirs The Air I Breathe?

Why seek, when Your breath stirs the air I breathe?
Strange—this sea cradles me, yet thirst remains.
A drop am I, held within the ocean,
the ocean swirling within the drop—
yet my parched lips forget to drink.

Everywhere I gaze, mere hollowed space—
yet this void pulses with Your name.
In my heart's ruins, where shadows once churned,
no ghost lingers but You—my wreck, my refuge,
my pyre burning without flame or smoke.

Why grieve the lie of separation
when my bones glow with Your phosphor?
Near, far—veils of the same face.
You are the time, and the time's vast tapestry,
the warp and weft of Your own threads.

To think of You is to rise—yet You are the thought,
the wings, the sky that cradles flight.
Who seeks? Who stands? Who kneels? Who prostrates?
When I recite the prayer or hear Your voice,
the tongue is Yours, the ears are Yours,
and the voice—*Hu*—is Your echo.

All hues bleed Your name—
petals, thorns, the rot beneath the rose.
Should Your brush forsake the world's canvas,
chaos would gnaw at form's sinew.
For You are pigment, stroke, and the hand that paints—
the prism where shadow and light converge.

No eye owns Your truth—
sight drowns in Your infinite.
You are the pupil, the gaze, the blind spot—
how can mirrors hold what casts no reflection?
Who dares claim knowledge of You?
You are the riddle, the solver, the solved.

You are the silence between syllables,
the hush beneath the drumbeat.
You are the wound and the suture,
the first without first, the last without last—
You are the infinite that swallows whole.

With each gasp, each trembling pulse,
You hum the anthem in my blood—'Hu'.
To seek You is to drown in my own depths—
to drown is to finally know, 'I am the truth'.
