Wakening from slumbers-
the morning air once a shrive-
Winter's sun has staggered,
This day's warmth a new surprise.
All insects buzz and chirp-and fresh borne birds assert-
A resurgence has newly risen-
The Spring squirms forth in birth.
No longer are my muffs and shawls
And face so red and chapped
Required to repel winter's cold
And needed for a wrap.
My legs and joints no longer shout
At things I once had done,
In passed Springs-
and then in Winter-
When I met the frosty sun.
Each plant is new revived-
the Earth again reborn-
Each cloud wears a sailor's cap,
Winter's icy wool is shorn.
As another trail is blazed
Winter retreats its gusting slaps
The trees all stretch-the leaves sprawl wet-
Spring dandles in my lap.
