Winters Wind & Summer Breeze Poem by Mark McGarry

Winters Wind & Summer Breeze

A winter wind has called you away,
But we were hoping you could stay,
We'll wave you off with smiling faces,
To far off shores, far off places,
But our faces tell a lie,
Because it hurts to say goodbye,

So take our love to keep you warm,
And happy thoughts to weather any storm.
Everyone has their path to find,
On paths that cross a friendship binds,
And friendship knows no space or time,
It knows no season - rain or shine,

As destiny beckons you away,
May happiness follow on your way,
One fine day you never know,
Another winter's wind will blow,
And bring you back to us again,
Bring us back a dear dear friend.

A winter’s wind we waited for,
Hoping we would hear your call,
But a summer breeze has brought you home,
And never a more welcome breeze has blown,
Again your voice rings in our ears,
Your face erasing all our fears,

To watch you go was hard to take,
At times I thought my heart would break,
Staring out into the sky,
With happy thoughts to get us by,
We learned to cope without your smile,
But sometimes a yard would feel a mile,

Now hours, days and months have passed,
And home you come to us at last,
The happiness that now fills our hearts,
Has healed the pain of time apart,
We’re glad your back and here to stay,
Back on the breeze of a summer’s day.
