Wish I Would Not Wake Up Poem by Anil Kumar Panda

Wish I Would Not Wake Up

I wake up in the morning
Not to the shrill chirp of the birds
Crowding on the window sills
Not to the melodious flow of the
Stream passing by at a distance
Not to the soft whispering of the
Leaves as wind pass through them
Not to the sound of bells tied
Around the cattle going to the fields
Not to the mystic sound of the flutes
Of the shepherds from the river side
Instead I wake up to the earsplitting
Sound of the machines uprooting
Old trees and breaking of branches
As they fall to the fertile ground
To the sound of ground being leveled
And soil being transported to fill up
The pond to raise cement structures
I drop some tears on the pillows
And wish to sleep forever as my soul
Cries at the merciless plundering of
Wealth mother earth has in her lap
