Wishes In My Clock Poem by Allen Liebenberg

Wishes In My Clock

Written for the one that I ONCE loved

Sometimes I wish you were far and not near
Sometimes I wish you were over there rather than here
Sometimes I wish you would vanish, even just for a while
So that the absence can put in my heart a smile

Wishes of proximity flood my heart
When I hear your voice over the phone, miles apart
Wishes for one blanket for us to hide
By my heart and my purity, I will abide

Another wish then welcomly crosses my mind
A wish I thought was of another kind
Another wish that I can store in my soul;
A wish of me, a half, plus you, equals whole

However strong and imaginary these wishes are,
Wishes that can't be carried away, no matter how far
There is one wish that rise above all:
A wish for a dance in my heart's eternal hall

This wish means more than all the other
And about the cliches acting as wishes, I won't bother
Because this wish makes tears caused by itch in my nose;
To be in my arms as I hold you forever close
