I watch you
sleep
as if
you float
in a seaming sea
far away from me
unmoored from
reality.
Where are you
I wonder
drifting...drifting
into the here
of there.
And now
I watch your dreams
hide behind your eyelids
adrift now
upon the vast sea
unconsciousness
my words
mere birds
high overhead
I watch you
until I too
sucumb to that great
unknown
later I will enquire
of what
you dream
of...
& you tell of
a boat
lost upon
a sea
that dwarfs it
in its immensity
how you longed
for even a single
kiss
to protect
you.
You smile
as if your dream
had been seen
by me.
Later still
I take you
in my arms
& we both
embark
on that long
journey together
with only our kisses
to protect us.
